¡Goooooooooool!

I love shouting "¡Golazo, golazo, golazooooo! every time a player scores and "¡seeee laaaa perdioooooooooó!" when they miss just like the Spanish-speaking announcers during a football match.

Obviously I am not talking about American football, but rather soccer, as it is called in the United States. I definitely prefer the term football (or fútbol), especially since that's what everyone else in the world calls it, but I digress...

Did you hear about Leonel Angel Coira of Argentina? He is a 7-year-old soccer prodigy that has just been signed to a youth league sponsored by Real Madrid. If you need an American football analogy, I guess that would be like the Colts recruiting a first-grader in hopes that he would be the next Peyton Manning. You can read or watch the ESPN sports coverage about little Leo on the ESPN website.

While we're one the subject of adorable kids playing soccer, I would like to share the short documentary film, L'equipe Petit, featuring a group of tiny football players from Barcelona with decidedly less talent than Leonel Angel Coira. If the title does not look Spanish, that's because it is in Catalán, which is another language that is spoken in and around Barcelona, Spain. You will hear both languages in the film but there are English subtitles. Warning: this film may induce cuteness overload!

If you can't view youtube, you can watch it on vimeo here.

  1. Wow, this is very cute. Seems like they take soccer very seriously and have strong opinions about soccer. I could understand a couple of words and some phrases sounded a little fimilliar. I also love their accents and your very right, cuteness overload all the way!

  3. Amo cómo el pequeño equipo trabaja junto. ningún mater qué guardan en luchar, y ellos se sostienen allí dirige arriba. Juego en un equipo de fútbol y estos niños podrían enseñarnos algo sobre.

  4. Why does the US call soccer, soccer instead of football. Football makes so much more sense. Those kids are really cute and some of them are really good.

  5. This is adorable. I love soccer and play on a travel team that one the state cup. Therefore, I felt a special connection to this video. If i could give advice to those kids i would say keep doing what your doing winning will eventually come to you. These kids really showed what soccer was about, having fun!

  6. This documentary is absolutely the cutest thing ever!!! I used to play soccer when I was little, and I wasn't very good either. But my attitude was very different than theirs. Their motivation and dedication to soccer is just so inspiring.

  7. These kids are incredibly adorable, and they are very passionate about 'futball'. i think even though they don't score any goals, they have fun, and that makes it a rewarding experience for them. The coaches could push them harder probably, but then they wouldn't enjoy it as much, and wouldn't be as happy.

wow this team has a lot of faith. I really like that they won't give up and i encourage them to keep trying. I think it was a great video and i sincerely feel sorry for them. I've had plenty of bad performances athletically and so i can understand their perspective. I'm sure that they'll win. nunca te rindas!

  9. This reminded me of back when I was younger I used to be on a soccer team. But in Tanzania we call it football also. The players showed a lot of effort in getting through the tight defense and to scoring a goal. Very impressive.

  10. I absolutely loved this video... It was adorable! I also loved the background music SOSOSOSOOOO much, it just added to the adorable-ness:) I really liked the kids' attitudes, because all they care about is having fun! I could really relate to this video as well, because I'm on the Salk soccer team for the first time (I've never really played on an actual team before), and the way they described how they feel, about getting all excited, is how I feel. Especially when we score a goal, as the kid says, "I feel like flying". haha, that just shows the energy rush and enthusiasm they have. I also thought it was cute how the little boy said "It doesn't matter that we don't score goals now, because when we're old, we'll score tons of them!" Because i thought it was super cute and hilarious- Yet it also shows how much hope he has for the future and he doesn't doubt himself or the team! They're proud of what they do, and they have fun with it.

  11. This team has alot of determination. I don't know any kids who have that much determination at such a young age. Usually kids don't care that much when they are young. They show alot of effort to just get a single goal and i'm happy for them that they were actually able to score one. I feel bad that they lost their last game 271 to 1, but at least they got their goal that they were hoping for.

  12. griffin 704- i felt so bad when they were just saying " zero, zero goals." it seams like they love it so much. since that is a soccer playing country, they will face good teams. i still think that they deserve to score one goal!!!!!
    ...
ok im glad they got their goal and they where proud. but 271-1 isnt that good. they did not really care. they just wanted to score that goal and thats all that matters

  14. This was incridibly cute! It was really inspiring how dedicated the kids were to soccer. It didn't matter if they won or lost they didn't give up. I think that is a really important thing trait to have, dedication and determination. They know that they will lose but they don't care becuase they are learning and having fun.

  16. Wow! I didn't even know kids this young could even be so dedicated to a sport! But seeing how much effort they had put into soccer at such a young age really says something about them and there determination. I was finally glad at the end when they score a goal and watching all there hard work pay off made me really feel good for these kids. Even if the final result by the end of the game had been something ridiculous like 271-1 it was great to see that they achieved there goal, and that they kept there head high no matter what came of the overall game.

  17. That is so cool that such young kids that have that much skill and determination in a sport. I can't believe a seven year old like Leo could accomplish something so great. It's so amazing to see hardworking children which reminds us that we could all achieve our goals. I find it very interesting that the U.S. calls the sport soccer but the rest of the world calls it football. I wonder what the reason for this is. Those kids deserve a lot of credit for playing an international sport like soccer at their age.

  18. Amazing! I didn't realize children at this age, could be so dedicated to sports. This was very inspirational to me, because the children work so hard to reach their goal. No matter what. If they won or lost, it didn't matter because they were so dedicated to the sport that winning or losing wasn't the point. The point was to feel proud of themselves, to reach their goal. When they lost 271-1, i was amazed. Although this is a large amount of goals, they were so happy after they made only one goal. I was so inspired by the fact that they completely ignored the fact that they lost, they were just so happy that they reached their goal to make a goal.

  19. GOAL!!! I find it extremely inspirational that even though these kids may not be the best soccer players they still have fun playing and give it their all. They didn't care they ended the season with only one goal and had given up two hundred seventy one. They were delighted to have scored that one goal. This video really made me think, winning isn't what matters, having fun is what the game is truly about

Think positive, the soccer team wasn't a total bust, they did have one goal!!!

  20. I think these kids while on paper they may not be that good they are great athletes. This is because at the end of the day they don't care about winning or losing they just want to play the game. Also they try very hard and are good sports which is not always true of some kids.
